|A South Africa and Swaziland Experience for Yale Concert Band|Yale Concert Band performs at the Bush Fire Festival in Swaziland
Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Duffy, the historic Yale Concert Band traveled to South Africa and Swaziland for a concert tour. With six concerts in twelve days at fascinating venues, the band still found time to discover this region's most precious activities, including workshops with local musicians and even a wildlife safari!
After a wonderfully received morning master class presented by Dr. Duffy with a young and enthusiastic wind ensemble, YCB performed in a shared concert at Sanlam Auditorium to a very responsive and full audience. Band members spent an evening performing, teaching and "learning to copy with basic instruments" with one of the traditional Kaapse Klopse Festival Bands in Cape Town. The Band also held an outdoor performance at a Swaziland festival where hundreds of native Swazis were amazed by the band in tuxedos performing in the bush.
Yale Concert Band performed in six different towns throughout Southern Africa, including at the "Yale founded" African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg.
|"What a trip! Music, social work, scenery, pioneering performances in Swaziland, food, drink, and history! Johan [our Classical Movements tour manager] was terrific."|
