Young Musicians Make Beautiful Music in Spectacular Setting

Classical Movements' Melodia! South American Music Festival continues to offer a unique musical experience set in the magnificent environment of Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. In the years since Classical Movements initiated the festival, young musicians from around the world have shared in outstanding artistic experiences along with once-in-a-lifetime cultural and outreach opportunities.

Melodia! Festival participants have had the honor of working with distinguished Guest Conductors such as renowned choral authority Doreen Rao, returning once again for Melodia! 2008. Classical Movements is also pleased to announce that Grammy-nominated María Guinand will serve as Guest Conductor for Melodia! 2009 (July 22-August 3, 2009).

The 13-day festival includes joint rehearsals and performances as well as individual ensemble concerts, a South American music workshop, a day of cultural outreach and exchange spent singing, dancing and drumming with Brazilian samba school students and members of a local chorus from the infamous shantytown "City of God" and extraordinary sightseeing opportunities at Sugar Loaf, Corcovado and Copacabana Beach in Brazil as well as excursions in Buenos Aires to the colorful neighborhoods of La Boca and San Telmo, a tango evening at the Viejo Almacén, and a visit to a working estancia (Argentinean ranch). Past present and future venues include Candelaria Cathedral in Rio, the Winter Music Festival in the roaly city of Petropolis, Teatro Colon Opera House and other venues.

Choirs participating in Melodia! South American Music Festival include The Children's Chorus of Sussex County, The Children's Chorus of Washington, The Choir of Groton School, The Miami Children's Chorus, The Minnetonka Chamber Choir, Cidade de Deus Children's Choir (Brazil), Coro Vocal del Sur (Argentina), Niños Cantores de Cordoba (Argentina), Niños Cantores de Lara (Venezuela), Coro Voces del Mañana (Cuba), The New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir (New Zealand), The Oakville Children's Choir (Canada) and The Winnipeg Mennonite Children's Choir (Canada).
